5th Singapore Original Comics Festival 2019
Singapore Original Comics Festival is organized by TCZ Studio Pte Ltd and Comics Society (Singapore).
It is an annual affair that happens in the month of July at Jurong Regional Library, comprising of an exhibition of original artworks, related fringe events like drawing and crafting workshops and major book launches and talks.
The exhibition of the 5th Singapore Original Comics Festival (SGOCF) took place at the Level 4 Sky Bridge, with more than 150 artworks from the winners of the Singapore International Original Comics Competition (SGIOCC), China Hangzhou International Cartoon Festival (CICAF, Singapore Section), as well as from our own local original comic artists and creators.
The fringe events this year comprise of a comic-inspired accessory making workshop (handcrafted accessory inspired by Dream Walker) by Wyrrd Rune on 13th July and a comic drawing session (of Singapore’s heritage icon – the Samsui Woman) by InkFusion Singapore on 20th July.
These workshops were all held at TCZ Studio over two respective weekends.
On 28th July, the prize-giving ceremony of the China Hangzhou International Cartoon Festival (CICAF, Singapore Section) took place before the major book launch of the newest collaboration between Mr. Wee Tian Beng and Yeo Hui Xuan – “Mystical Gateway”. This new comic title was made available in both English and Chinese languages and all 100 first-launch copies were fully sold out at the book launch.
The talk this year was conducted by three prominent local comic artists and novelist – Clio Hui Kiri, Shen Jiahui and Brian Lee. At the talk, these three up and coming new-age talents not only shared with the audience the experiences they encountered during their comic and novel creation journey, but also promoted their latest comic and novel volumes as well.
